How can you know?

• Encourage, even insist that you meet your child's friends

• Make contact with the friend's parents

• Talk to your child's teacher

• Take action if you don't like what you see or hear

Hopefully you will know before there is a crisis.

How to deal with a crisis

If you reach a crisis where your child is in trouble 

• Give the appropriate punishment

• Make sure your child takes appropriate responsibility

• Find out as much about the history of the problem as you can

• Talk to the experts including counselors, teachers etc

• Come up with an action plan i.e. what are you going to do about this and when?

• Make sure you have a backup i.e. if the action plan isn't working, what do I do?

• Get professional help if you need it e.g. therapist, social worker
